Hardwood Edge Glued Panels

Edge glued panels are available in 5/8" through 1 3/4” finish sanded thicknesses and in a combination of dimensions up to 32" in width and 84" in length. Buying panels from a panel maker is a common practice for wood products manufacturers because it takes space, equipment, time and manpower to do it in house and those things are expensive.

Panels are available in Ash, Cherry, Soft Maple, Walnut, Quarter Sawn Sycamore, Plain Sawn Sycamore, Rustic Sycamore, Clear Hickory, Rustic Hickory, Basswood, Plain Sawn White Oak, Rift Sawn White Oak, Quarter Sawn White Oak, Plain Sawn Red Oak, Rift Sawn Red Oak, and Quarter Sawn Red Oak and can be purchased online.

Panels are made up according to the specification of the customer's order. Because they are made up of lumber, a natural resource, they are therefore subject to all the character that occurs in a tree. We sort lumber for the characteristics that are desired in the panels and this of course affects the cost of the panel. There are two sides to a panel and each will be graded according to its characteristics. A panel is made up of strips of lumber called staves and the staves are sorted for color and character and then they are laid together to make up the panel per the customer's specifications. Glue is then applied to the stave edges and the panel is clamped together until the glue dries. The panel is then surfaced to the specified thickness; then it is trimmed to size and sanded. Minimum and maximum stave widths will be determined by the buyer.

An A-Grade Panel  is made up of staves that are relatively even in color and that contain no defects larger than a pin knot, or a mineral streak larger than a pencil line. In practical terms, this would be a premium panel.

B-Grade Panels are color random; may contain larger mineral stain, but defects are limited to an occasional tight knot no larger than a nickel. In practical terms, this panel would be referred to as natural or rustic.

C-Grade Panels must be sound but color is random and character defects are allowed as long as the soundness of the panel is not compromised. This in practical terms would be called a utility grade panel.

Each panel will have a face side and a back side, and the sides will be graded individually. For instance, an A/B panel will have an A-Grade face and a B-Grade back.

These panels would be considered

A-Grade and show the limit of color

variation that would be allowed.
